As you may have heard, Sarah's 8 1/2 hour heart surgery ended around 6:30 PM tonight. She's sleeping comfortably in the coronary care unit thanks to a combination of drugs. She remains on assisted ventilation through a breathing tube, but there are plans to begin weaning her and hopefully removing the breathing tube later tonight. She has a pacemaker as a matter of routine, but there are hopes that this will be a temporary measure. She has a brand new mitral valve, a small patch of her atrial wall, and hopefully a well scrubbed interior to her heart. And her family's hearts are in better shape tonight as well. There is a long road ahead but we can't help but feeling relief that she has come this far successfully. We are also grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from family, friends, and colleagues.

Reed and Lucy arrive tomorrow evening - Reed directly from Honduras and Lucy from New York. Soon, we hope, Sarah will be giving orders in her usual style and charming everyone within range.
