This is Sarah's second post-operative day, and we'll hope for one in which comfort outweighs distress.  There are so many ways to hurt after an operation like this.  Muscles hurt and body systems are slow to come back on line in all the ways that you can imagine - and, of course, the surgery itself is a source of pain.  All the while, pain management is balanced against maintaining a good blood pressure and assuring effective breathing.  I am sure that the nurses are delighted to have a nationally recognized pain doctor as the parent of one of their patients!  (But, advocacy is a parent's priority, isn't it, and Seddon is the world's best.)

In spite of the discomfort of recovery, Sarah's physical and medical status appears to progress in the right direction.  She needs one less medication to maintain her blood pressure.  Her heart is pumping more strongly.  So far, there are no major complications.  Her other surgery from last Wednesday to remove the clot from her right leg seems almost forgotten as it has healed leaving Sarah's leg pink and warm.  We are all working to support her psychic and spiritual status against the onslaught of misery like this.

Reed missed his Miami connection on his way back from Honduras yesterday so he didn't arrive in Boston until after midnight.  Joey Marzelli and Chris Hague were wonderful to drive to Boston to gather up their old friend, Reed, and Reed's girlfriend, Lucy, who had taken the train to Boston from New York.  They spent last night...I guess I don't know where they spent last night...either in our house in Concord or with friends in Bradford.  It will certainly brighten Sarah's day today to see them!

Our continued gratitude flows to all who have expressed their concern for Sarah in so many ways.  We family members would each trade places with Sarah in a heartbeat if we could, but it is hard to imagine that any of us would have so many loving friends and family member rooting for our recovery.  We are reading all of your wonderful comments to Sarah and she likes having "followers" - so please say "hello" in a comment and sign up to "follow" her progress.

  1. Dear Sarah, in a short time, this will all be a memory and you will be wondering why you have a chef, chauffeur and personal assistant for all of your spa treatments! Did you get that in writing? I will add new York tour guide to your list. There is a light at the end on the tunnel. Much love, The Standarts
